Facebook has today launched the ability for users in the US and UK to add that they are organ donors to raise awareness for the cause and the need for more donors. Users who aren't will also see links to organisations where they can register. ABC News in the US is reporting that it was dinner conversations with his long time med student girlfriend who helped him come up with the idea and his friendship with the late Steve Jobs that spurred him on to implement it.
Zuckerberg said:“Facebook is really about communicating and telling stories… We think that people can really help spread awareness of organ donation and that they want to participate in this to their friends. And that can be a big part of helping solve the crisis that’s out there”
They will be rolling it out to other countries including Australia soon.
