All you need to know from Apple's WWDC Keynote 2016

The keynote to kick off Apple's 2016 World Wide Developer's Conference has just wrapped and in it, Apple dropped a heap of announcements for all their operating systems. Here are the major new features coming to all your devices in a few months.

WatchOS 3

  • Faster App launching - will keep favourite apps in memory for near instant launching.
  • New Dock - You can now access your favourite apps by pushing the side button.
  • Control Centre - Apple has added Control Centre by swiping up.
  • Messaging - Better Reply Options.
  • New Face - Called "Numerals".
  • SOS - WIll contact emergency services and send your key contacts a map of your location.
  • Activity Sharing - See your friends' activity as well as yours now.
  • Wheelchair Support - New settings for people in wheelchairs to monitor activity.
  • Breathe - New app to help you take a moment and relax.

 

tvOS

  • Remote App - New Remote App being released that includes advanced features such as access to your accelerometer for gaming.
  • Siri - You can now search movies by topic like “find high school comedies from the 80s”.
  • Single Sign On - Finally you can sign in just once to use all the network apps you might want on your Apple TV.
  • Automatic Downloads - Apple TV will now automatically download apps you download on your iPhone or iPad if you want it to.

 

OS X > macOS

  • Name Change - They’ve now changed the name to macOS and the new version is called Sierra.
  • Desktop - We all save files on our desktop, now they will be available everywhere through iCloud.
  • Auto Un-Lock - Your Mac will now recognise your Apple Watch and automatically unlock.
  • Copy and Paste - Copy an item and your iPad or iPhone and you can now paste it directly to your Mac or the other way around through continuity.
  • Optimised Storage - Will move older files to the cloud when your drive is full.
  • Apple Pay - Finally coming to the Mac. Apple Pay on the Web will prompt to you to pay with Touch ID on your iPhone or Apple Watch when you buy online.
  • Tabs - Now available for all apps.
  • Picture in Picture - Keep your videos playing while switching between apps.
  • Siri - Finally coming to the Mac!

 

iOS 10

  • Lock Screen - Raise to wake feature so you can see notifications and they are now interactive through 3D Touch
  • Widgets - Will show you snippets of info from your favourite apps and be interactive.
  • Siri - Now available for developers to use so you can say things like "Hey Sire, order me an Uber".
  • Photos - You can now find photos on a map with Places. New features like facial recognition and scene recognition will all be powered on device to protect your privacy
  • Memories - Will now show you things like trips or phtotos from when you’re at the beach, or group photos by who's in them.
  • Maps - Now offers pro-active suggestions based on time of day, habits or locations.
  • Apple Music - Redesigned from the ground up and Connect is nowhere to be seen!
  • News - All new design. Now includes subscriptions and breaking news notifications.
  • Home - One app to control all your connected home devices.
  • Phone - Automatic Voicemail transcription - YES!
  • Messages - Huge update. Will now include rich links so you can do things like play youtube videos from within messages. Bigger Emojis. New features like "Invisible Ink" and a heap of new effects to make messages a lot mor fun!

So there you go, nothing that blew us away but plenty of welcome updates - I personally can't wait for the new Messages on iOS and Siri on the Mac.
