Everything you need to know from Apple's 2020 WWDC

WWDC 2020

It looked a lot different this year with no audience, but Apple pulled off a Keynote for 2020 in only a way Apple could. It was slick, smooth and those transitions just blew us away!

Here’s what you need to know (and if you have time watch the keynote in it’s entirety at the end).

iOS 14

  • Widgets- Available in 3 different sizes and now available on your Home Screen(s).

  • App Library - Sick of pages of Apps? Now Apple can keep them all in one page for you!

  • Smaller Interface - For things like calls and Siri, they will no longer take over your whole screen.

  • Picture in Picture - Finally coming to your iPhone.

  • Messages - Introduces pinned conversations, group photos and new memojis.

  • Car Keys - Wow, soon you’ll be able to use your iPhone to open your car!

  • AirPods - Spacial Audio coming to AirPods Pro, automatic switching is finally here!

  • App Clips - Just found a new coffee shop that has a rewards program? - App Clips will let you jump straight in with just a tap.

  • Privacy - Apple doubles down and we’ll now see a green light anytime your camera is on.

iPadOS

  • Everything from iOS plus:

  • Scribble - iPadOS can now transcribe your handwriting into text.

  • Shape recognition - Draw a rough shape and iPad OS will snap it into the ideal form.

macOS - Big Sur (The first OS11)

  • Refreshed Dock - new uniform shaped icons (some not so pretty).

  • Control Centre - Finally comes to the Mac as does Notification centre.

  • Safari - New custom home page with backgrounds and improved tab design.

  • Messages - Finally feature parity with it’s iOS counterparts.

watch OS 7

  • Watch Faces - Even more customisable and now you can share your watch faces with friends.

  • Complications - Apps can now give you multiple compliactications not just one.

  • Sleep Tacking - Yes, it’s finally here. Now when do we charge our watches ?

Apple says goodbye to Intel

Apple is finally saying goodbye to Intel in favour of it’s own chips.

“From the beginning, the Mac has always embraced big changes to stay at the forefront of personal computing. Today we’re announcing our transition to Apple silicon, making this a historic day for the Mac,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With its powerful features and industry-leading performance, Apple silicon will make the Mac stronger and more capable than ever. I’ve never been more excited about the future of the Mac.”

Great, and I just bought the new 16inch MacBook Pro!
